Royal Challengers Bangalore slumped itself into threshold of elimination losing the recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. They bowled well against the latter to restrict the score to 146. In the inning, Kane Williamson scored palpable runs of 56 playing 39 balls. This added to Shakib Al Hasan’s 35 runs, was the only worthwhile scores of the inning. Mohammed Siraj scalped the middle order taking away Yusuf Pathan and Wriddhiman Saha cheaply. Earlier, the bowler nicked Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket before the power play overs.
Kane Williamson had his fifth half century of IPL 2018 season with a hefty strike. He smashed 25 off the last 9 balls he faced. Finally, Umesh Yadav had him caught at the long leg. In the inning, Tim Southee assisted Siraj with his three wickets, taking wickets once in a while, including that of Alex Hales. The pitch was favorable for bowlers. This also had similar advantages to Sunrisers Hyderabad, who defended their score with stringent bowling. Each of the bowlers had a wicket in the chase. Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets including that of Virat Kohli.
In their previous tussle as well, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers were dismissed on successive overs. It was same in this match. Kohli played for 39 runs batting until the 10th over. In the next over, Rashid Khan attacked AB de Villiers, slogging the batsman at cheap runs. Kohli was also dropped by Kane Williamson at 33. By the final stretch of the game, Mandeep Singh and Colin de Grandhomme played a strong, pushing the chase to the target.
Grandhomme scored 33 off 29 balls, while Mandeep Singh added 21 off 23. In the last over, the equation to win narrowed down to 11 runs. It was defended by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. RCB remained short of the target by 5 runs. With the win, Sunrisers help themselves two points ahead in IPL point table. While, Royal Challengers Bangalore further slogged itself in the charts.
