In the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad the former was bolstered with the strike from David Warner who hammered 126 off 59 balls. This was the second win for Hyderabad toppling the top team in the IPL point chart. The team is now next to the top in the table with just a point behind Sunrisers. Warner’s showdown was superb. The batsman scaled up the ton after half the inning in about 43 balls. After the stretch, the run rate slowed down. Still, Hyderabad managed to tally their score to a challenging figure. 209 was their highest total against any team. It was also the highest score faced by Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL.
Warner attacked Gambhir’s top bet, Nathan Coulter-Nile. Taking down the bowler, Warner proved the dominance of Hyderabad batsmen on Knight Riders’ bowler. However, Warner still could not do well on the overs from Coulter-Nile as he did in those from Umesh Yadav and Chris Woakes. Kane Williamson had a good contribution to the score as well. He scored 40 off 25 balls providing the end impetus into the inning.
Sunrisers had a stormy start with Warner attacking the opening overs from Yusuf Pathan. The player smashed 18 boundaries. He scored with optimal attack, trying to hit a boundary in every second ball he faced. Warner was dropped twice at 13 and 86, without which, he could not have been the Player of the Match. Kolkata bowlers were just futile on the first half, with Hyderabad’s score burgeoning to 140 for no loss of wickets even after 12 overs.
Kolkata lost its openers before completion of the third over, falling to 2 for 12 with the wicket of the skipper. It was Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey who paired until half the inning. Robin Uthappa scored 53 off 28 balls, while Manish Pandey added 39 off 29. As the team kept on losing its batsmen with good partnership, the run rate could not par up with the asking rate. Kolkata chased the score to 161 finally, surrendering the match.
