After Steve Smith stepped down as the captain of Rajasthan Royals being shammed with the ball tempering incident, David Warner followed a similar route. Warner drew back from the captainship of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming season of IPL Schedule 2018. As disclosed by the franchisee lately, the Australia vice-captain decided to step down as his involvement in the cape Town incident surfaced. K Shanmugam, CEO of Sunrisers Hyderabad said, as Warner is dropped, new captain would be announced shortly.
An official from BCCI expressed that both Smith’s and Warner’s future in IPL 2018 is murky. The players would be automatically banned from IPL if Cricket Australia decides to ban them. The official said, there would be “no way” for BCCI to accommodate the players if CA bans them, reminding how Andre Russell was banned earlier. Lately, Smith, Warner and Cameron Bancroft were being recalled to Australia to hear the judgement. The players are suspended from the fourth Test of the current series, scheduled in Johannesburg.
Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha, the new player in Sunrisers Hyderabad had another viewpoint. In the wake of the suspension, he said there would be no great impact to the team. He said that Sunrisers Hyderabad is “strong enough” to replace Warner. He, however, added that Warner’s presence in the team would definitely made it stronger. He said, the team can try to “fill the void”. Earlier, Rajasthan Royals selected Ajinkya Rahane was the replacement of Steve Smith as the captain.
In the Third day of Australia South Africa Test in Cape Town, Australia team heads planted a pre-planned bustle of ball tempering. Australia was losing the match and the players tried to get a new ball though unfair tactics of using a tape to temper the ball. In a press meet after the match, Smith admitted to his fault and full knowledge of plan. Cameron Bancroft was seen hiding the tape under his pants, while team Australia kept on bowling with the tempered ball.
