Virender Sehwag throws his hat for Coach position
Virender Sehwag is currently the team director of IPL team Kings XI Punjab.

Lately, Virender Sehwag was reported to apply for the post of head coach. Among other contenders, he came up with his entry. The last date for application was May 31. Anil Kumble, the present coach is granted a direct entry, but as BCCI officials maintained, the selection will be completely based on performance of all candidates.

Two other experienced contenders from international circuit are Tom Moody and Richard Pybus. They were the coaches for Pakistan and Bangladesh team. From domestic arena, Lalchand Rajput and Dodda Ganesh are other applicants along with Virender Sehwag. Rajput was associated with India A and Ganesh Dodda played an ODI for India back in 1997. Tom Moody coached Sunrisers Hyderabad to phenomenal success, while, Sehwag is the current team director of Kings XI Punjab.

Kumble was in contract for a single year, even if the general contract period is for four years. As the former cricketer did not have coaching experience, he was given “the time to settle in” with the responsibility. His stance with the team hauling it to the top ICC rankings and the one of the longest undefeated stretch in Test is a palpable prove of his ability as a coach. BCCI, however, wants to follow a complete procedure of selection, which is due this time.

Per Amitabh Chaudhary, the BCCI secretary, it is only the normal procedure that is being followed. He said the issue is “very simple.” The coach’s term has ended and BCCI is following the process. He said if BCCI does not follow a process it is not supposed to be good, while following a process is supposed to be good. He said the process followed by BCCI is well defined and there is always something going. Chaudhary pointed on the busy schedule of players at home as well as on international pitches. He is confident on the advisory committee to offer a solution to the issue.
