Lately, there has been some furor in media about a possible rift between India skipper Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble. However, in a recent interview, the captain sidelined any possibility of such issue. In his own words, “there are no issues whatsoever.” The captain also declined the possibility of any differences between the coach and other team members. He said a lot of things are being written by people without being a part of the dressing room. Kohli termed the situation as “very strange.” The captain said his relationship with Kumble is been “really good.”
He said, team India is totally focused on Champions Trophy. Kohli further added, differences and disagreements could exist in the game but the team is through good progress. He said, “agreements and disagreements” are part of life and he does not want to pass any comment or judgement. The captain said, in India there is a lack of patience and people speculate from a distance to apply their own idea. He said, it is the reason he does not focus on these issues. He also pleaded not to spread rumors if the media does not have knowledge about something.
Earlier, the media flared up news of a probable rift between the coach and the captain. The news popped up after BCCI rolled out an advertisement for the post of Head Coach of the team. The captain said he had no problem with BCCI’s stance on the coach. Thus, the news of disagreements between Kohli and Kumble emerged as nothing but a media spice-up. Kohli said a lot of people like to find rumors especially before big tournaments.
Although, a coach’s position is for four years, Kumble was in contract only for a single year. It was signed under former BCCI heads Anurag Thakur and Ajay Shirke. Shashank Manohar, former Chairman, who appointed Kumble as the coach said the term is supposed to make the transition of Kumble as a player to coach smooth. Meanwhile, Anil Kumble proved his stature with intensive success hauling the team to Top charts in ICC Test Ranking. Under him team India witnessed a year without a single defeat in Test format.
