Tripathi’s strike thumbs down Kolkata for its Second defeat
Rahul Tripathi shooting a delivery out of the boundary. The Player of Match was a boom in the inning.

Rising Pune Supergiant thumped down Kolkata Knight Riders to nick their sixth win this IPL season. This made Pune one among the bests, losing in only a single match so far. The team is now on the third spot of the point chart. In the latest tussle, Pune dominated Kolkata with the strike from Rahul Tripathi, who scored 93 off 52.

The team lost its batsmen early, but Tripathi ensured they don’t loss the match. The player was brutal hammering boundaries for 78 runs. Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, and MS Dhoni could not contribute much in the chase of 156. Tripathi hauled the chase near to the victory mark. He was removed before 6 runs to win. It was the six over the midwicket that Daniel Christian hammered off Colin de Grandhomme, which hit the winning button.

For Kolkata, it was the second defeat of the season among six home games. Sunil Narine toppled early in the inning at the last ball of the first over, caught and bowled by Jaydev Unadkad. The bowler took two wickets for 28 runs. The innings slackened falling to 55 for 4 in the tenth over. By the middle overs, a brief partnership from Colin de Grandhomme and Manish Pandey salvaged the inning from falling further.

The final thrust was from Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 30 off 16 balls. In the 11th over, Manish Pandey plundered three back to back fours off Shardul Thakur. In the next, Imran Tahir was beaten hard for consecutive sixes by Colin de Grandhomme. Ben Stokes and Gautam Gambhir struck quick boundaries. The inning slogged early before the powerplay ended.

Pune’s chase was headstrong. It was one of the fastest powerplay innings of the season so far. Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed by Umesh Yadav as he was left caught behind. But all the inning needed was the iron fist from Rahul Tripathi. Although Smith was gone by the fifth over, the chase reached 59. In the chase, Tripathi plundered 9 fours and 7 sixes, the heaviest batting stretch this season. By the end of the powerplay Pune reached 74. The batsman reached 50 playing 23 balls. The win by 4 wickets with four balls remaining was not a surprise after such a showdown.
