Team India’s coaches: Ravi Shastri, Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid
Ravi Shastri is appointed as Head Coach, Zaheer Khan as the bowling coach and Dravid is the batting coach for oversees Test series.

Although the Cricket Advisory Committee wanted to delay the appointment of coach, a hasty response from Committee of Administration chairman Vinod Rai concluded the process. CAC selected Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the team along with Zaheer Khan as the bowling consultant and Rahul Dravid as the batting coach for overseas Tests. Earlier, Saurav Ganguly expressed CAC’s intension to meet captain Virat Kohli to discuss the approach of different coach. The committee also wanted the team to tour Sri Lanka without a coach. However, as the new team of coaches is selected, it will accompany the squad.

Shastri’s exit from the role of team director as well as coach was not swift earlier. Team India’s performance was upbeat in his tenure, but his successor, Kumble, surpassed his performance. Kumble led India to one of its longest test dominion and stay as the top ICC Test team. Shastri was also a contender of the coach position in 2016, but he lost it to Kumble as the latter has strong support of the Advisory committee. Shastri was the team director of India from 2014 to 2016. During his tenure too, India rose as the top ICC Test rank for two months. There were a couple of series successes for India during his previous stint.

Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid are the icons of bowling and batting respectively in global cricket circuit. Khan is a former fast bowler. The former player has been with Delhi Daredevils, the IPL team, as a crucial player. The former India bowler has no experience in coaching, but he was in the management side of Delhi Daredevils. On the other hand, Rahul Dravid, the legendary batsman of team India has intensive and successful coaching experience. Under him the Under-19 team of India nicked world cup and India A team reached exemplary heights. He also coached the Delhi Daredevils team. The coaches’ team will take charge beginning with the forthcoming Sri Lanka tour. India’s tour will begin on July 26.
