In the recent match of Bangladesh Cricket League season 2016-17, North Zone ran over Central Zone by an inning and 50 runs. The test match was held in Chittagong where Sunzamul Islam claimed nine wickets in the second inning. Islam gave out 80 runs in the stretch to be among the best bowlers in the first-class cricket of the country. With the figures, 9 wickets for 80 runs, he is now the third top bowler in first-class cricket of Bangladesh. He bowled 27.4 overs without much variations to put the batting line up of the opponents into a wobble. On the third day, he racked up his tally to nine wickets creating the havoc. He dismissed all batsman in the team, excluding Abdul Mazid, who was run out.
The North Zone entered the pitch first and batted for 141.2 overs. In the inning, the team scored 502 runs, with Junaid Siddique knocking 181 runs. Other players like Nasir Hossian, Dhiman Ghosh and Ariful Haque smashed fifties of their own. Shahidul Islam and Taibur Rahman claimed two wickets each. In the next inning, North Zone could chase the score only to 233 runs. Farhad Reza had 4 wickets while giving out only 38 runs. On the other hand, Sunzamul had 3 wickets for 64 in the team’s first inning. Central Zone was asked to continue their batting for the next inning. This time they were all out in 219 runs. In the stretch, Nurul Hasan knocked 113 runs off 111, delivering a striking stance.
The match witnessed strong bating as well as bowling of players from both the teams. While Hasan and Siddique hammered centuries, Sunzamul knocked 9 wickets to create a milestone. Previously, South Zone defeated East Zone by 44 runs and an inning. The match, which was played in Sylhet was over in only three days. The bowlers had good success in the venue. Abdue Razzak claimed 6 wickets in the match, while Rubel Hossain had five wickets.
