As David Warner is banned from IPL 2018 over his controversial involvement in recent ball tempering fiasco, Sunrisers Hyderabad found its other way around. The team selected Alex Hales, the England player as the opener batsman. The England striker was bought by the team for INR 1 Cr. The latter was the top player in the IPL team, both in terms of form, record and expense. Sunrisers also have Shikhar Dhawan as the next best bet. Hales will be playing along with Dhawan as the opener of the team. The England player is the only batsman of the country to score a century in the shortest format so far.
On the other hand, Kane Williamson is picked as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Earlier, Warner was supposed to be the captain as well as the opener batsman of the team. Now, Alex Hales is inducted as the opener and Williamson will play as the new captain of the team. T20 records of both Hales and Warner are impressive. Warner’s IPL record playing alongside Sunrisers is backed with a brilliant strike rate of 147.70. The batsman features an average of 52.63 for a total score of 2579 runs. He played 59 IPL innings so far. Also, Warner led the team to lift the title in season 2016.
Alex Hales is with an impressive T20 International record. Although England players are lagging behind in ICC T20 rankings, Hales is the only one to feature himself in the list. He has played 52 Internationals in the shortest format to aggregate a score of 1456. The batsman has an average of 136.32 runs with an average of 31.65. Still, the player was so far almost a second fiddle in IPL. Last time he played in the tournament was back in 2015, being on board with Mumbai Indians. He played in Pakistan Super League for the current season, but with little impact.
