It is the first match of IPL playoffs stage, the qualifiers. Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad will be on Mumbai battleground, both with strong records. In their last faceoff Super Kings beat Sunrisers by eight wickets. While, Hyderabad has been on a stretch of losing matches with back to back defeat against Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Super Kings in their last three campaigns.
Super Kings has been in IPL qualifier stage since they first started the tournament in 2011, but the team could not nick the title since 2011. This team has build up a strong core with players like skipper MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis, and so on.
On the other side, Sunrisers Hyderabad was the table toppers in league phase. However, losing three back to back games, the team seem struggling to regain some form. In the season, they faced Super Kings twice and they lost both, with a woeful bowling performance. Hyderabad players are showing signs of wariness with their top bets playing without good results. This could appear has a roadblock to their IPL qualifier games.
Siddarth Kaul is being low on runs, Bhuvneshwar Kumar seem to struggle with his workload, while Rashid Khan, the top attacker, went on completely wicketless in last four matches they played. Apart from bowling troubles, the middle order appears to be rusty, with underachieved players.
In previous tussles between the teams, Ambati Rayadu played impressive knocks, keeping Super Kings ahead in the games. The latter has a good formation of players and strong options to fill in the positions. Ambati Rayadu will play as the second opener in this match as well. He maintained a heavy strike rate against Hyderabad. Shane Watson will open the inning with him, while Faf du Plessis will play in the middle order. MS Dhoni will be on finishing position, as usual. Hyderabad will depend on Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan in this match as well.
