Striker Smriti back to India Women Squad for World Cup Campaign
Smriti Mandhana injured her knee in BBL 2016-17 season.

Smriti Mandhana was rested after she injured her knee at the Big Bash League. The top striker of team India, she could not partake in the World Cup qualifier in Sri Lanka. The player is fit again and has returned to the squad lately. India is playing the Quadrangular Series at present. Mandhana is expected to bat in the World Cup campaign, which is set to begin on June 24 in England. Devika Vaidya will be replaced with Mandhana. It was the only change in the current team playing the Quadrangular series in South Africa.

Two players debuted in the current series. Sushma Verma and Nuzhat Parween played their mainden ODI against Ireland. They are the two wicket-keeper options in the team. The 15-member team is kept intact for the next campaign. Smriti Mandhana is the key player in team India, but she has been long absent from the squad. Her last appearance with the team was in December 2016, at the Women T20 Asia Cup. On the other hand, Devika Vaidya is primarily a bowler. She is a leg spinner and has played seven ODIs and a T20 International alongside the team. The player was not among the top XI on the currently ongoing series.

Mandhana debuted in 2013 and has been at the top batting line-up as the opener of the team. She played 23 ODIs and 27 T20I and a single Test match so far. She was one of the players from India at the Women BBL tournament in Australia, along with Harmanpreet Kaur in season 2016-17. In the upcoming World Cup tournament in England, eight teams will participate. The tournament will be a month long with the final being scheduled on July 23, in Lords. The first campaign of India is against England in Derby.
