In a dismaying incident after the match in Guwahati, the Australian team bus was hit with a rock. The Cricket match was held at Basapara stadium in Guwahati for the first time. A rock was hurled at the Australian team bus while coming back from the venue, winning the match. The rock is believed to be as big as a cricket ball. Even if no player was on the side of the window, which was shattered, the team was in utter shock. Top batsman Aaron Finch uploaded an image of the broken window glass of the bus that depicted the intensity of the incident. The player Tweeted, "Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!!"
It is confirmed that there were no causalities. Cricket Australia has not stated anything until now, but there will be action on the incident. The local authorities are following the incident with strict investigation. As reported, several fans run after the bus after it left the stadium premises, but the incident happened on the way to the hotel away from the stadium. The Basapara Stadium is located at the outskirts of Guwahati city. There are locals living around the area and distance is quite long from the stadium to the hotel passing through scantly populated areas away from the city.
It might be a stray incident effectuated by petty folks or any disgruntled fan, but such mishaps cannot be ignored. BCCI should take strict measures to ensure such incident does not repeat in the future. Meanwhile, the state authorities should take adequate step to boost up security of sportsmen visiting the venue. The stadium is being prepared for IPL in the next season. Under such circumstances, fixtures may be shortened for the venue. A similar incident took place in Bangladesh the previous month with team Australia. The team but hit with a stone while returning from the Test venue in Chittagong.
