In a surprising move, Sri Lanka selectors made some unprecedented changes in the Test team to India. Ahead of the team's tour to India for three matches in the longest format, several top cricketers are left out from the team. Among the top names dropped from the squad are Kusal Mendis, Nuwan Pradeep and Kaushal Silva. Mendis is the top batsman in the team along with Kaushal Silva, while Pradeep was a crucial addition in the bowling ensemble.
The players are being replaced by some of the older members of the squad Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dasun Shanaka. The selectors listed out 15-members of the squad for the upcoming tour. Ahead of the tour, it was also indicated that Asela Gunaratne and Kusal Perera will include squad, however, the players did not make out into the selector's list.
Nuwan Pradeep is being omitted because of injury issues. The player was injured in the recent Pakistan tour. The player might be selected for the series after the Test. De Silva has been though a lack of form lately. The player was in the team against Pakistan, where he could score 67 runs. Meanwhile, Kusal Mendis had some contrasting show up with average performance. The young player is rested to focus on his game. The reason for this change is due to the effort of selectors to bring back experienced players like Dhananjaya and Shanaka. The players put up a handful of intensive knocks for Sri Lanka A. The team won with impressive strike off the players against West Indies A.
In the absence of Pradeep, the bowling front includes Rangana Herath, Dilruwan Perera, Suranga Lakmal and Lakshan Sandakan as the top bets against India. On the other hand, selectors pressed batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama to the top batting lineup. Also, Dimuth Karunaratne, Lahiru Thirimanne and Niroshan Dickwella are expected to put up a strong resistance against India. Another new change is the appointment of Thilan Samaraweera as the batting coach of the team. He is a former batsman of Sri Lanka.
