Sri Lanka is looking out for new addition into the bowling front. Young bowler Kevin Koththigotha is under the radar of selectors. The Under-19 bowler might soon get a call up to represent in the national senior team. The 18 years old bowler is presently at Youth Asia Cup tournament with the U19 team of Sri Lanka. The bowler has an unorthodox action, which became the center of attraction for the team. He has the action commonly knowns as “frog in a blender”. This is similar to African bowler Paul Adams, who create a massive sensation before more than a decade. Adams was left handed, and Kevin being right handed is a difference.
The young bowler is successful in international circuit. In the victory against Afghanistan, the player took a single wicket. He was under the purview of Dhammika Sudarshana while at School. The former is the opener of Sri Lanka A team. Sudarshana said Kevin has a very unusual action, like that of Paul Adams. He also added the bowler was not coached for the style and it came naturally to him. The opener said, Kevin has improved tremendously now even if he struggled with the pitch in the early stages. He also lauded the bowler’s action as confusing to batsman. Sarath Asoka, an umpire, said Kevin’s action is incredible and he can land the deliveries in the right areas.
Kevin Koththigoda has got the taste of cricket as a kid. He is from Unawatuna, near to Galle International Cricket Stadium. He was admitted at Richmond College, where he was trained as a professional cricketer. Richmond College produced several Test cricketers of Sri Lanka including Sudarshana, Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva and others. Kevin has a strong prospect to be included in the primary team of Sri Lanka. If not in Test, the young bowler might be selected in shorter formats like the ODI or T20 International.
