Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has lauded Miss India runner-up Manya Singh, who's the daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver. Manya was recently crowned 'Miss India runner-up'.

Dhawan took to Twitter to hail the 19-year-old, who has overcome numerous adversities in her life to come into the limelight. Dhawan wrote: "Manya Singh.. what an inspirational story! You’re proof that dreams do come true. Believe in your goals and you will rise above the odds to achieve them."

Manya narrated her journery before the Miss India finale. She was born in Mumbai and was raised by her parents in Hata, which is a small town in Uttar Pradesh. She belonged to a poor family and her parents had to struggle to earn a living. Despite so much adversities, her parents wanted to educate her.

She went on to describe her days in college where she had to reluctantly spend nights without food. Plus, for her college, her mother had to mortgage her jewellery. Her journey to fame has inspired millions of Indians and she has come a long way.
