Three Sri Lankan cricketers, who were suspended following a bio-bubble breach in England, were asked to return home for the investigation. All three – Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka and Niroshan Dikwella have arrived in the island nation yesterday.
The players violated bio-bubble rules after the conclusion of the third T20I in Durham and thus, they were handed a suspension. A fan recorded the video of players hanging out in the city, far away from the team hotel and thus, the Sri Lankan cricket board took a strict action against them. After knowing the incident, the management isolated the entire team from these three players and called these three back home.
According to a report, these three players weren’t given the tickets of business class as they were flown in by economy class along with other passengers. The returned players will now isolate for 14 days in a hotel in Negombo and will face the investigation after the quarantine.
“Sri Lanka Cricket executive Committee has suspended Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka & Niroshan Dickwella for breaching the bio-bubble and they will be immediately recalled to Sri Lanka,” SLC secretary Mohan De Silva said in a statement.
Reacting to the video, which was posted by a Sri Lankan fan, SLC chief Shammi Silva said, “An investigation is underway as they have breached the (code of) conduct.”
Sri Lankan cricket fans were disappointed after seeing their team’s performance in England, where they didn’t even cross the 150-run mark in each of the three T20Is. They were whitewashed by England and had to suffer another series defeat. The rest of the squad is now playing ODIs and they’ve again suffered a humiliating defeat in the first ODI, where they were bundled out for a mere 185.
