After making a staggering debut in the Test series against Australia, Shubman Gill went through a rough patch against England at home. In Australia, he amassed 259 runs across six innings, including two fifties. However, when India played England at home thereafter, numerous experienced batsmen struggled to put runs on the board. Gill, along with the likes of Pujara and Rahane, failed to put an impactful performance throughout the series.
Gill's next assignment is now the ODI series against England, but whether he will get a chance to open, is doubtful. Following the ODI series, Gill will play IPL 2021 for Kolkata Knight Riders, where he is expected to regain his lost form, before heading to the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand in England.
