Lancashire Cricket Club has signed India's middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer for the upcoming Royal London One Day Cup 2021, the club released the statement on Monday, March 22. The tournament will begin from July 22 and Shreyas Iyer will arrive on July 15 and will be a part of the Lancashire team for the entire month-long tournament. Iyer is now the sixth Indian player to have represented the prestigeous county club after the likes of Saurav Ganguly, Farokh Engineer, Murali Karthik, Dinesh Mongia and VVS Laxman.

England Women's cricketers have been all praise for Lanchashire's latest recruit as they took to Twitter to congratulate and welcome the Indian batsman. England's slow left-arm spinner Sophie Eccestone, who's currently the highest ranked bowler in T20Is, has been a part of the county club. She has played for Lancashire Thunder and Lancashire Women.

Hours after the news broke out, Shreyas Iyer expressed his feelings after the signing. He said, "Lancashire is a legendary name in English Cricket with a long-standing association with Indian Cricket."

"I am extremely humbled and honored to carry the legacy forward of greats like Farokh Engineer, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman at Lancashire. Emirates Old Trafford is a world class international stadium and I am looking forward to meeting my teammates and the supporters of the Club," he added.
Praising Iyer, Lancashire's Director of Cricket, Paul Allott said, "Shreyas has experience of captaining in an IPL final as well as playing in top-level international fixtures, so his on-field skills, and ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations, will serve our young squad well this summer."
"His current form against England has been hugely impressive and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to Lancashire Cricket and Emirates Old Trafford later this summer," he added.
Shreyas is currently with the Indian Cricket Team in Pune for the three-match ODI series against England. Following this, he will lead Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
