While delivering the second ball of West Indies' 20th over, Pollard bowled this too slow, taking all the pace off the ball, thus making it impossible to hit. Karunaratne, who was tricked by Pollard, went for the big shot and the ball lobbed up uppishly to the right of the bowler, where Gunathilaka was standing at the non-striker's end.

Pollard dived to his right and managed to get one hand on the ball but it popped up towards silly mid-off. The skipper, who's known to pull some freaky catches in the Indian Premier League (IPL), quickly stretched towards the ball and took the catch with both hands. The wicket was crucial for the hosts as Sri Lanka lost track thereafter, losing the next three wickets for 21 runs.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The visitors got off to a brisk start, scoring 17 runs off the first five overs, without losing a wicket. The opening duo of Dimuth Karunaratne and Danushka Gunathilaka pulled off some magic thereafter, as they hit Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder for 15 and 14 runs, respectively in the 7th and 8th over.
Following this, there was no stopping to the duo as they brought up a half-century partnership in the 9th over. Pollard tried all his bowling options but none of them were able to get the breakthrough. So, he brought himself into the bowling attack and managed to dismiss Karunaratne on his second ball itself.
