Australian skipper Tim Paine, who hasn’t been in great form lately, has opined on the winner of the upcoming inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) Final. Team India is currently in Southampton for the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.
They will go head-to-head against New Zealand in the battle of getting crowned as the first Test champions. Ahead of the all important final, Simon Lee, the pitch curator at the Hampshire Bowl, where the match will be played, has revealed the probable nature of the wicket.
In a video released by Cricket Australia’s official Twitter handle, skipper Tim Paine is seen speaking to the media. In the video, he spoke about the upcoming Ashes series against England and the strength of England side and also picked the winner of the WTC Final.
‘I think New Zealand are a good team,” Paine said when asked about England’s loss against New Zealand in the second Test, which eventually cost them the series. However, he revealed the reason why England lost.
“Secondly, if we’re being realistic, I think it’s a really different team that England put on the field to what we’re probably going to see in the Ashes. Obviously, there are some key players in the side that did play and I think they will play a key role. So you’re always keeping an eye on that, but keeping it in perspective, we know they’re going to come here with a Ben Stokes, a Jofra Archer and they will also play a spinner,” he added.
At the end, he was also asked about his prediction for the WTC Final and Paine took no time to say, “India will win pretty comfortably if they play anywhere near their best.”

The Virat Kohli-led team India has started training at the stadium and has been playing a four-day intra-squad match simulation at a ground next to the Hampshire bowl. New Zealand, on the other hand, will be coming to Southampton with a good experience of two Tests and their players have also been acclimatized to the English conditions.
