Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been a role model for many people across the globe. Be it his performances in the 2007 and 2011 World Cups or his successful battle with cancer, Yuvraj Singh has always proved to be a match-winner for the country.
Yuvraj’s one such match-winning performance was against England in 2007, when he first got into a banter with Andrew Flintoff and then smashed Stuart Broad for six sixes in one over. Although Broad was at the receiving end, it was Flintoff who had triggered Yuvraj with his abusive words.
Flintoff was hit for two fours by Yuvraj, which he didn’t like at all and it was evident by the words he used to curse Yuvraj. Following that over, Flintoff said some poor words to Yuvraj and the latter wasn’t quite pleased with the behavior. As a result, he smashed Stuart Broad for six sixes in a row.
Just recently, while speaking on the podcast ’22 Yarns with Gaurav Kapur’, the Indian southpaw batsman revealed the conversation with Andrew Flintoff. “I remember I hit two good boundaries off Flintoff which he obviously didn’t like. He said something to me and I said something back. He told me, ‘Come here I will rip your neck off’. So I said, ‘You know where my bat would go’. It was quite a serious fight at that time. I just felt like I wanted to hit every ball out of the park,” Yuvraj Singh revealed.
He also shed light on Collingwood’s advice to Broad before the over and how Broad messed things up by bowling on his pads. “Luckily, the first ball I hit (off Broad) went out of the park. The second ball I hit, went in the crowd. Third ball I hit over point, where I hadn’t even hit a boundary in my career. Collingwood came and told Broad to keep bowling yorkers to me outside off-stump because the off-side was big. But Broad thought of bowling into my legs,” he said.
“So when he decided to do that, I knew he was in trouble. The fifth ball hit the toe of my bat, it was a small boundary that went over Flintoff. Sixth ball I knew he has to bowl a yorker. So I was ready to hit it straight and it was in my arc. My first look was to Flintoff, giving him a cheeky smile,” he concluded.
