As Australia has been facing series of troubles across all formats of the game, skipper Steven Smith seems to get a bit frank with his players. In a recent press meet, the Aussie captain mentioned David Warner and Steve O'Keefe being honest with what his approach to the game. He especially emphasized for the India tour, which is set to begin shortly. The captain invoked Karun Nair's name, while inciting David Warner to play for monumental scores. He said that the team's current batting approach in Asian condition is "rubbish." He said that left arm spinner Steve O'Keefe will be critical for the India Tour.

Smith pointed out that for senior players, it is much important to step up in Asian conditions. He said that the team failed to do the same while playing with Sri Lanka and they did not get the expected results. He accepted the fact that both himself and the deputy captain failed to knock centuries in the last year and they must target for big runs in forthcoming tournaments. He said that he does not want to get rid of Warner's natural flair and the way he plays. But he wants the batsman to play like Karun Nair, who knocked big runs in a lately concluded series.

Smith expressed that thinking defense is good and backing up the idea has negative impacts. He said that players much not think that they are going to play long enough defending their wickets, but they should target on big numbers. He said that team Australia have shots, but players will need to get themselves in to get things easier. Smith has been pointing out that playing natural games is not enough in different situations and players must adjust per ground conditions. The captain also said that a draw is much better than a defeat. He said that players must be willing to put their natural games away to match with different ground conditions.

Regarding O'Keefe, Smith said that the bowler is going to be a big player for the team in Asian conditions. He said that O'Keefe knows how to bowl in Indian conditions and he also had success in the A tour to India. The captain said that the bowler has been working with Sridharan Sriram from the country, who is well acquainted with Indian pitch conditions. Smith said that O'Keefe will be a big part of the success in India, if they acquire one.
