After a mild fray over the sudden resignation of former Bangladesh Coach, Chandika Hathurusingha was appointed as the new Head Coach of team Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Cricket is hoping immense positive effect off the appointment. The board’s chief, Thilanga Sumathipala, confirmed the coach will have total control over the team. The board’s stand is to hand over the team to coach Chandika completely.
Earlier, he resigned as the head coach of Bangladesh after the team faced a humiliating defeat against South Africa. On the other hand, Sri Lanka is being through a low ebb in their form. In a short period, the board changed two coaches without much improvement.
SLC, lately, entrusted its team to the new coach. Board’s president Thilanga Sumathipala said, if the board fails to hand over the team completely to Hathurusingha, it would be of no point hiring him as one of the best coaches in the world. He accoladed Hathurusingha saying no one in SLC knows more than the latter, when it comes to coaching. He insisted, SLC “should give him freedom”. The president emphasized on the need to trust the new coach. He said, the board also expects him to answer their questions time to time.
SLC President praised the new head coach as world class. He understands the coach as an expert in techniques of cricket in the fast-changing landscape of the game. Another advantage of Hathurusingha will be his native closeness as a Sri Lankan. The team was under foreign coaches for long, which could have produced a systematic lacuna, like language barrier, in the coaching facility.
Hathurusingha is regarded as the person behind the resurgence of Bangladesh team in international cricket. He is well known as an ardent follower of technology and its usage in cricket. SLC disclosed that he was their ideal candidate as a head coach. SLC President further added that Bangladesh has released the coach “in good faith”. The former Sri Lanka test player will take charge shortly, and his first assignment will be the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Ironically, it was the same series, which he was to prepare the Bangladesh team against Sri Lanka. Now, he will do the exact opposite.
