The final fixture of Duleep Trophy 2017 trickled down to the match between India Red and India Blue. India Red took the pitch on the first day, leaving on stumps at a strong score of 317. By the day's end, 83.3 overs were bowled. On the day, India Red lost five wickets ending with Baba Indrajith, leaving Ishant Jaggi as the overnight batsman.
Although, India Blue did topple some wickets, Prithvi Shaw and skipper Dinesh Karthik inflicted much of the damage. Shaw scored an impervious 154 runs and Dinesh Karthik added 111 runs in the inning. The match so far, had the one-sided showdown of these two batsmen playing almost throughout the day. Also, Bhargav Bhat took down three wickets as the attacker from India Blue's side.
The day help young batsman Prithvi Shaw build an expensive milestone. The 17 years old player had his tournament debut on the match. He repeated his glamorous experience of hitting big runs on domestic debuts. Earlier in his debut match of Ranji Trophy, he knocked the match winning ton in the semi-final against Tamil Nadu. This time it is a hundred and a fifty. His score of 154 is an evidence of his marksmanship as an emerging player. Shaw played 249 balls hitting 18 fours and a six. Dismissed by Bhatt, he played 81 overs in the day as the inning opener.
Combined with that of Shaw's, the strike of Dinesh Karthik penetrated through the slackened attack of India Blue bowlers. Skipper Suresh Raina used eight bowlers to slog the hefty partnership. It was successful on his previous attempt against India Green, but on the latest, the strategy brought zilch. It was only Akshay Wakhare and Bhatt gaining the edge, that too after the Red team already hauled the score to a challenging height. For Karthik it was his 27th century in first class. The player hit 14 fours playing 155 balls to reach the feat. He and Shaw partnered for a massive 211 runs.
