Second IPL Qualifier: Mumbai and Kolkata to tussle for final berth
Rohit Sharma would not like to back down in second qualifier as he had to in the first.


In the first qualifier, Rising Pune Supergiant hauled themselves to the final tournament. Now the quest will be for the side to take them head-on in the arena. The second qualifier match will be between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. Both teams were among the top-four on the chart since half the league phase.

While Mumbai Indians was stronger with most wins of the season. The only team they could not defeat throughout the tournament so far is Rising Pune Supergiant. Who presented them the latest defeat in the first qualifier as well. Mumbai was also defeated by Kings Punjab once. The loss at Wankhede stadium came out as a surprise for Rohit Sharma. Despite of batsmen who played stronger in earlier matches, his players remained dominated under Smith’s squad.

In the previous tussle, Mumbai posed a challenging score, but could not defend it in the next inning against Pune. Ajinkya Rahane bolstered in the inning with strong knocks. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders played the elimination match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It could have been a washout which would have changed the equation to something completely different. If it was, Kolkata was to fall to fourth in the chart. This means being eliminated from the tournament anyhow. But Gautam Gambhir changed everything on his favor playing the rain card. Rain, ought to be bane for the team turned out as a boon.

In the elimination round, Hyderabad was sent in to bat first. They scored a decent 100 plus figure being attacked by Kolkata bowlers. There were no good partnerships in the inning. In the chase, Kolkata lost three wickets in almost in a row. By the first ball of the next over, three top players were dismissed. In fact, the approach was to play as fast as they can and keep up the score to gain an advantage of an interruption from rain. Gambhir was the only batsmen that put up adequate runs to win the match by DL Method. Kolkata played 5.2 overs until the downpours began.
