MS Dhoni is unquestionably one of the best wicket keepers throughout the globe. However, as he has already taken rest from Test format, now time has arrived to find a new and younger player for the permanent or first choice role. The two names on the list were Wriddhiman Saha and Parthiv Patel. Per the chairman of India's selectors, MSK Prasad, Saha is a better choice as he puts the young player ahead of Patel. In the test tour to Caribbean last year, the player scored 205 runs batting in four innings. The knock included his maiden test century. Following the tour, he also knocked two half centuries in the test series with New Zealand in Kolkata. It was only the strain on his thigh that made a way for Parthiv Patel into the team.
As of now, Saha is fit again and the selector is betting for his comeback into the international test circuit with the team. Prasad also watched both the players in the Irani Cup match at Brabourne Stadium to check the grounds for the wicket keeper spot. In the match, Saha ducked in the first inning, but knocked a career best 203 remaining unbeaten in the match. He was the winning player in the tournament leading his side to win the title. In contrast, Patel could scale up to only a total of 43 runs in the match.
The chairman highlighted the fact that Saha was out of the team only due to injury, not because of his form. He also reminded Saha's stance as the Player of the Match in the Kolkata Test against New Zealand. He also mentioned his maiden ton against West Indies. In addition, Prasad expressed his happiness on Patel's positive response to the call. He referred Patel as "a fighter to the core," highlighting how the player single handedly brought up Gujarat as the Ranji Champion.
Prasad acknowledged that Patel's glovework has "definitely improved," but he believes that Saha has better hands along with the capacity to score more. He posed Saha as the number one keeper-batsman in the country, highlighting how he salvaged the struggling team in the recent Irani Cup tournament.
