The first Test between South Africa and Bangladesh kick started with South Africa's fiery openers steering the inning. Bangladesh won the toss and decided to field first sending in South Africa to take on the pitch. However, the strategy seems to go haywire with Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram knocking straight to build a formidable partnership of more than 100 runs. In 37 overs, South Africa reached 175 runs without any loss of wickets. Both the openers plundered a half century each. As the inning advanced to the 40th over, both Elgar and Markram neared their century scores. It is the first day of the Test match in Bloemfontein.
Bangladesh bowlers could not find a better line and length in their attack. Mushtafizur Rahman and Taijul Islam bowled most of the overs. Both the opener batsmen have been keeping a similar pace in the strike rate and number of boundaries. With such a strike, the home team might be looking for a massive score that might go up to 500 plus runs in the first inning itself. Then players plundered 18 boundaries each by the 40th over on the threshold score of 90. Bangladesh bowlers reached an economy of 4 or more than it. Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim opted to use both the spin options as well the pace-men of his team. Still, there has been no impact on the opener pair.
Bangladesh bowlers also tried out short balls, but the spells could not bring any change in the inning as well as the intensity of the batsmen. Subashis Roy, Soumya Sarkar and Rubel Hossain has tried their hands on the pitch. Rahman must go for a change of strategy in bowling. Brining on new bowlers to the opening pair could slog the partnership. However, the team has already exhausted its ensemble. Dean Elgar reach the century mark by the 41st over remaining unbeaten. While Markram needs a couple of runs more to reach the feat.
