Rajasthan Royals faced its latest defeat on its home ground as Kolkata Knight Riders nicked a 7-wicket victory in the Jaipur IPL match 2018. In the first inning, Knight Riders attacked Royals with adverse spins taking advantage of the slow surface. The latter started headstrong where openers Ajinkya Rahane and D’Arcy Short played a partnership stretch of 54 runs in the powerplay overs.
Rahane added 36 off 19 balls until he was stumped at the delivery from Nitish Rana. D’Arcy Short scored 44 runs batting until the 13th over. Rana bowled out him as well wobbling down the IPL t20 inning with sluggish momentum. Both players struggled against spinners finally losing their wickets, while they feasted on pace deliveries.
In the middle overs, middle order batsmen Ben Stokes, Jos Butler added a mild impetus to stabilize the faltering inning. However, spin again emerged as the Achilles heels for the players, with Stokes falling at a delivery off Piyush Chawla. Butler remained unbeaten with a score of 24 off 18 balls playing with the rest of the lineup. In the last eight overs, the team scored 65 runs losing eight wickets.
The chase was almost a cake walk for Knight Riders who won the match sparring the last over. Batsmen in the IPL team had an explosive approach towards the scoring this season keeping a little caution towards losing wickets. Chris Lynn was trying to play “with a vertical bat” losing his wicket in the third ball if the inning. After his wicket, Sunil Narine and Robin Uthappa forged a hefty partnership of 69 runs playing until the ninth over. Narine was run out scoring 35 off 25, while Uthappa played to the 13th over scoring 48 runs.
