The Virat Kohli squad in IPL faced the final knockdown on their home ground against Gujarat Lions. The match came up as an elimination time for the team facing their sixth defeat of the season. In the last match, they were bowled out at 134 by Gujarat Lions. For Lions, the target came out as quite an easy bet. They nicked easy runs off bowlers winning the match at 13.5 overs with 5 wickets. Aaron Finch did not hesitate to play aggressive hammering Tymal Mills to reach his half century in 22 balls. His strike of 72 off 32 balls brought up the win before 37 balls. With the win, Gujarat Lions lifted themselves from the bottom of the point chart. It was their third victory in eight matches.
Bangalore had to face the attack from Andrew Tye. He finished with three wickets taking down Chris Gayle, Travis Head, and Mandeep Singh. It was Basil Thampi who initiated the attack removing Kohli at 10. Bangalore started late plying with utmost caution. In the first four overs, the batsmen could bring only two boundaries, including the six from Virat Kohli. Tye knocked Gayle at the first ball of his attack. Bangalore was on 23 for 3 after five overs. Then came Kedhar Jadhav, who began the strike hitting Basil Thampi. After he leveraged Ravindra Jadeja to take his score up 21 off just 12 deliveries. The batsman added 31 into the tally.
Pawan Negi came up with strong strikes when Bangalore was desperately in need of a support after the wicket of Jadhav. AB de Villiers failed to read the pitch and it was Negi who boosted the score plundering 32 off 19 balls. His enterprise was Soni who gave out successive sixes to the batsman. By the end of the inning S Aravind and Aniket Chaudhary hauled the score to 134 with a 23-run partnership. Skipper Suresh Raina remained unbeaten in the chase striking 34 with a moderate strike rate. The team took down the target almost in a cake walk. Finch’s hard hit was an added advantage. Gujarat won the match by 7 wickets.
