In the Group B tussle, Gujarat defeated Kerala by four wickets. In the final day, Gujarat was chasing the score of 105. However, it was not without a struggle. As the target was low, the partnership of 27 runs was enough to nick the match away from Kerala. Batting 42.3 overs, Gujarat scored 108 runs staring the day at 22 for 1. The team lost is batting order with little collaboration from the top order losing the early wickets. There were paltry scores from the top batting line up. Chintan Gaja was the first wicket to fall in the day. Priyank Panchal, another night watchmen left after a while.
Kerala bowler Akshay Chandran was the prime attacker on the day. His spells were crucial to dismantle the top order. Other bowlers who added to Gujarat's ache were Jalaj Saxena and Rujul Bhatt. Gujarat scored 208 and 307 batting the innings against Kerala. While bowling, Gujarat spinners tackled Kerala's top order. The team was slogged at 59 runs losing 4 wickets.
In the middle order, Sachin Baby and KB Arun Karthik forged a partnership of 99 runs. Gujarat bowlers, especially the debutants, reached several feats in the inning. Spinner Desai took 6 wickets for 80 runs, in the second inning. In the first, he had 3 wickets for 66. On the other hand, other debutant bowler Chawla, picked 8 wickets for 135 in the first inning adding another 3 wickets for 66 runs in the second.
In the match between Saurashtra and Jammu & Kashmir, the latter faced a 212-runs and an inning defeat. The match lasted until the final session of the third day. J&K scored 256 runs and 156 in their innings, while Saurashtra managed to lead the score by a massive difference. J&K will tussle Gujarat in the next Group B match. Also, Kerala will tussle against Rajasthan at their home ground.
