The semi-finalist teams in Ranji Trophy are set to go through a boost as a handful of top players will return into the tournament. Mohammed Shami, Wriddhiman Saha and Umesh Yadav will join the tournament in semi-final stage. In the fixtures, Bengal will tussle against Delhi with Mohammed Shami and Wriddhiman Saha, while Vidarbha will play with Umesh Yadav in the match against Karnataka. In the season, Saha scored 230 runs playing seven innings so far. He has an average of 38.33. Mohammed Shami’s maintained a strong form picking up 18 wickets in only three matches. Yadav’s tally in two matches he played is nine wickets.
Another star player, Ishant Sharma might turn up for Delhi. The bowler was made the captain of team Delhi. His ankle was injured, for which he was dropped from the team. Per Delhi team Chairman of selectors Atul Wassan, the team management is in touch with India coach Ravi Shastri. As reported, the player is keen to participate in the tournament. Sharma’s five wicket haul against Assam was a high point for the player.
The first semi-final will be in Pune, followed by the second on Kolkata. The semi-finalist this season are Bengal, Delhi, Karnataka and Vidarbha. The final match will be on December 29 at Indore. The Holkar Stadium will host the final schedule of the tournament for the second consecutive time. In the previous season Gujarat won the cup, but the team was knocked out in quarter-final by Bengal. In quarter final, Delhi defeated Madhya Pradesh, while Vidarbha won over Kerala. In another match, Karnataka thumped a victory over Mumbai.
Vidarbha reached the semi-final stage of the tournament for the first time. Chandrakant Pandit is being credited for the feat it reached. He is the coach of the team, who mentored Mumbai before. Wasim Jaffer, mentor of Vidarbha said Pundit is one of the best things that happened to Vidarbha. Per Jaffer, the team is focusing on the process rather than results, which is brining up a strong form.
