Rangpur Riders clinches BPL title with Gayle's thumping knock
Gayle termed his latest century knock of unbeaten 146 as one his top five.

Chris Gayle established himself once again as a master batsman in T20 winning the BPL final title for Rangpur Riders. In the final tussle against Dhaka Dynamites, the player thumped one of his ‘top five knocks’. He scored an unbeaten century of 146 runs hauling the team’s score to 206 for 1. The inning featured the half century knock from Brendon McCullum scoring 51. Chasing the high score, Dhaka Dynamites scored 149 runs off 9 wickets, handing a 57-run victory to Rangpur. For the title winner the BLP feat is a record as it was only Dhaka, which was favorite before the match.

Gayle’s knock featured 18 sixes. This was another record, surpassing his own. In 2013 IPL, the player smashed 17 sixes as one of the highest in the format. With his recent century, the Caribbean cricketer became the first player with five centuries in Bangladesh Premier League. Rangpur’s inning bolstered after Gayle and McCullum began the plunder after half the inning was bowled. The players milked bowlers like Khaled Ahmed, Shahid Afridi, and Sunil Narine. Dhaka penalized itself with catch drops of both the batsmen. McCullum was dropped in the 15th over, while, Shakib Al-Hasan gave a life to Gayle at 22. These misses had a hefty mark as in the last 5 overs, the players brought 75 runs.

Dhaka could not play a strong game as a reply. The team kept losing wickets since the first over of the inning. Mehedi Maruf, the opener was removed in the third ball of the chase, followed by JL Deny in the next over. The no partnership in the inning, while Shakib Al-Hasan and Jahurul Islam added the scores. Al-Hasan scored 26 and Islam scored 50 runs, the highest in the inning. Rangpur bowlers Sohag Gazi, I Udana and Nazmul Islam took 2 wickets each, while Mashrafe Mortaza, Rubel Hossain and RS Bopara slogged one each.
