Raina to miss first ODI against New Zealand in Dharamshala

India and New Zealand are getting ready to lock horns for the first ODI in Dharamshala. The match is scheduled on October 16, where the re-shuffled players will participate. However, Suresh Raina, who was brought into the team after the Test series to play the ODIs, is ruled out of the first match. The player is affected with viral fever and so far. Raina also could not play the Ranji Trophy match that was played last week. He is the opener of the Uttar Pradesh Team. The team played against Madhya Pradesh without Raina. The team lost the match by an inning and 64 runs. The absence of the player, who is also the captain, had an impact.

Although Raina's drop out from the team is confirmed, BCCI, so far, has not come up with names of any alternate players. His replacement player is not selected and the selector's panel is working on the same. Raina was in the ODI team of India before a year in October 2015. He was supposed to play the first three matches of the ODI series. A total of five ODI matches will be played by India and New Zealand.

Raina was inducted by MSK Prasad, the chairman of the Selector's board. According to Prasad, his ability as a part time bowler in the team apart from being a batsman was the prime reason behind his selection. In the matches, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are rested. Suresh Raina lacked the consistency in ODI as a well as T20. Due to his poor form, he was dropped from the squad in January of 2016. He was left out of the ODI squad that toured Australia in 2015-16. He was not included in the tour to Zimbabwe as well.

Raina's stance in T20 was bleak. He played the Asia Cup and the World T20 but delivered a poor performance. Batting for three innings, the player could only score 39 runs in the Asia Cup. In World T20, Raina scored 41 runs playing four innings. The player has scored a single ODI century so far. He has played 26 ODI innings.
