BBCI announced India’s squad for the upcoming International Test schedule against Afghanistan. India will host Afghanistan for a single test match in Bangalore. Karun Nair and Kuldeep Yadav are the new names in the 15-players squad for the side. They are included to replace Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Skipper Kohli will be heading to County Cricket schedules in England. He will be playing for Surrey.
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma is rested from the match. The player has been on consecutive series for several months even before IPL. He was the key player in previous series such as South Africa and Sri Lanka. Jasprit Bumrah, Parthiv Patel and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are other two rested players.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Ishant Sharma, now playing County cricket, will be flying from England for the International Test match beginning on June 14. They will be back to England after the single off-test match. Shardul Thakur is being added as the extra spin option.
Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha, who was included in the squad as the wicket-keeper is being ruled out. Saha broke his thumb in the IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders. He struck his right thumb facing a delivery off pace bowler Shivam Mavi. Per medical reports, the player would require at least 5 to 6 weeks to recover. Saha also injured his left hamstring back in the Test against South Africa before IPL.
While India selected Ajinkya Rahane to lead the Test squad to Afghanistan, the visitors will be headed by Asghar Stanikzai. This will be the first International Test tour of the team against India. Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced five spinners in the 16-member squad. Mohammed Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Zahir Khan and Hamza Hotak are selected as spinners, while Wafadar Momand, the young sensation is added as the primary pace option.
Hamza Hotak recently emerged as the leading bowler in the domestic first-class season. Afghanistan’s batting front has Darwish Rasooli, a primary striker. The young player was the top run-getter in Ahmad Shah Abdali tournament.
