Ajinkya Rahane, the top batsman in India squad, lately, confessed his strict willingness to improve and “evolve” his game. In a short meet with the press, the striker focused on the importance to “improve” the game “day-by-day.” He added about the advantages of practicing in nets. The batsman wants to improve his game. Rahane is focusing on single shots and technique in each net session. He believes the strategy will make him “100% confident” of playing such shots, when the opportunity comes. In the net practice session of the day at Eden Gardens, Rahane was seen getting his hands in reverse-slap on square or reverse paddle, getting back on his knee.
Rahane was practicing with Kuldeep Yadav, trying the reverse sweep shot in every fourth ball. The player was trying to make his shots perfect, using the session in the best way he can. The technique is not orthodox, but the batsman is not seen playing the shot often. Lately, especially in Tests, spin options have become an imperative decider. Every team is brining spinners into their bowling attack. Against this backdrop, batsmen are also coming up with ways to confront such strategy. In the recent matches against Australia, Rahane struggled against Nathan Lyon. The batsman was successful to tackle Lyon’s intensive attack playing reverse sweep shots. It was, in fact, the first time when the player used the technique extensively.
Rahane bats in the top line-up in India squad. He is one of the best bets India has against bowling attacks. His form and records in both ODI and Tests are impressive. Working on new techniques, the batsman is improving his game. This would help team India to play against bowlers like Rangana Herath, who recently emerged as one of fiercest spinners. Team India is playing against Sri Lanka shortly. The latter is on a three Test matches tour to India.
