Pakistan Super League confirmed its second season finalizing the concluding venue at the Gaddafi Stadium. PSL’s final match will be played in Lahore. Chairman of PSL, Najam Sethi, was in the ceremony of the Winner’s trophy in Dubai. Five PSL captains are also present in the ceremony where Sethi briefed each franchisee about the security measures. PSL mates are held with extensive security measure to counter terrorist activities in the venues. Since the incidence when the Sri Lankan team was attacked, the country is extra cautious to host international cricket matches. Several international players participate in the league tournament and security is a high priority in Pakistan.
PSL is set to begin on March 5, however, Pakistan Cricket Board is yet to received endorsement from international institutions. It was only in last month, the Federation of International Cricketers Association, FICA, warned on security specs of the country. It stated that “acceptable level of participant security and safety cannot be guaranteed” in Pakistan. To the statement, the PCB retaliated strongly by accusing FICA of doing a “disservice” to the cause of Pakistan Cricket. They even asked FICA to justify their statement by citing their report as “careless and cavalier.” It was quite a spat, which lead to some positive outcomes for Pakistan.
Following the fray, a task force was formed specially for Pakistan by England Cricket Board President and the ICC head. The Pakistan Task Force met PCB officials and several persons from Punjab government to review the security measures at Lahore. The task force was formed by Giles Clarke, the ECB President. Reportedly, Clarke shared the latest reports on their visit to Lahore at the ICC meeting in Dubai. Positive news might have come up for Pakistan in the meeting although there is no such official statement about it until now. Several international players are part of the PSL franchisee. Notable among them are Brendon McCullum, Darren Sammy, and Kumar Sangakkara, who are leading their teams in the tournament.
