Profile

Rohit Sharma is one among the best ODI openers who played for India. He is certainly one of the most talented players in the format with rare accolades, even comparable to Sachin Tendulkar. His average in 50 overs format is impacted with strikes like the unbeaten triple century. Playing as a Ranji Player for Mumbai, he debuted ODI in 2007 against Ireland in Civil Service Cricket Club. In his third ODI against Australia be made considerable breakthrough to seal his spot in the squad. It was in the 2008 CB series he hammered the match winning half centuries. The player debuted T20 in September 2007 in the match with England in South Africa.

However, by 2011, he had a dip in his form that rested him form the 2011 World Cup. By this period, the batsman gathered a good reputation in IPL circuit with his strong performance in the first and second season. In 2011 season, he played for Mumbai Indians as one of the top strikers in the tournament. He also played well bowling for the team. He got back a call to the ODI team after his 2011 IPL showdown. The batsman toured West Indies where he hit three half centuries playing five matches. He nicked the Player of the Series title. In the following home series against the same team, he again received the Player of Series award scoring three fifties again.

In the following season, 2012, he was throughout a loss of form again and scored poor in consecutives matched even if he was selected. But in the Mohali ODI against England, he broke the silence adding 83. The player was set to debut in test in 2010 in the campaign against South Africa. But he was injured before the match while practicing with the football. This got him a test debut latter only in 2013 against West Indies. In his debut Test match, Rohit hauled another feat. He scored 177 in his debut inning salvaging India out of trouble. In the next test as well, the player plundered a century. Such a milestone in Test debut was only achieved by Saurav Ganguly back in 1996.

In 2013, he smashed 209 in an ODI against Australia in Bangalore. This made him the second player in ODI history to smash a double ton after Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. In the year alone he aggregated more than 1000 runs.

Throughout the first half of 2014 the batsman was mostly injured. But this did not keep him off from achieving another rare feat of being the highest individual scorer in ODI ever. His knock of 264 playing 173 against Sri Lanka became a new milestone in the format. In 2015 World Cup, he finished as the second top scorer for India with 330 runs. This included a hundred and two fifties. His 137 against Bangladesh in the quarter final was match winning. Throughout 2016, he has been busy in domestic circuit.
