PCB wants 1 Billion as compensation from BCCI
Shayar Khan, PCB Chairman said the board lost millions as India refused to play bilateral tournaments with the team.

Political tussles between India and Pakistan finally gave a way to real confrontation between the cricket boards of the countries. Lately, Pakistan Cricket Board made their demand of compensation from BCCI official. PCB got its demand approved from ICC. ICC has approved PCB’s reservation of one billion rupees to bear the legal cost of filling the compensation claim. The board has hired a law firm from England to represent in the ICC dispute resolution committee and file the case for compensation in ICC. Indian diplomatic channels called out to cut off any bilateral tournaments between India and Pakistan. It was a diplomatic protest to Cross-Border terrorism.

Back in 2014, BCCI could not get clearance from the Government of India for the bilateral series between India and Pakistan despite an earlier MoU between the two boards. Per PCB, the MoU was signed to play six bilateral tournaments between 2015 and 2022. This incited Pakistan to claim compensation from BCCI due to the unexpected suspension. PCB also sent notice of intent to BCCI regarding the issue, which the latter ignored. Furthermore, there were also talks between PCB and BCCI officials at different locations. These talks could not bring a settlement as well. PCB approached ICC after the board did not get any response for the letter of intent.

In a press meet, Shaharyar Khan, Chairman of PCB confirmed the recent developments in the case. The chairman said PCB lost millions of revenues due to BCCI’s refusal to play bilateral tournaments with Pakistan. Per Khan, PCB will lose a “sizeable amount” from the amount of broadcasting contract if the tournaments are cancelled. In an earlier claim, the board sent a notice seeking USD 69 million as compensation.

On the current impasse with Afghanistan, Shayar Khan expressed, PCB was surprised at the statement from Afghanistan Cricket Board. The PCB Chairman asked Afghanistan to apologize for the “statement about Pakistan and Pakistan Cricket”. He said, Pakistan will not indulge in bilateral cricket with the team unless they offer a public apology.
