Mushfiqur Rahim, wicketkeeper cum batsman of Bangladesh is put aside the matches for about two weeks. The player was injured to the left of his hamstring in the first ODI played on the Boxing day. The player is sidelined for the remaining matches of the ODI Series and the three shorter format matches of the tour. In the last match, he was hurt on the hamstring while running for a single. He scored 42 in the match. In addition to the ODI and T20 matches, his inclusion in the Test matches is also uncertain. However, it is expected that the player returns fit for the Test series.
BCB selectors induced Nurul Hasan to replace Rahim. The wicketkeeper will debut in the ODI match in Nelson. The player was on the extended preliminary squad travelling along with the team. Earlier this month, Hasan was also trained at Sydney. The new wicketkeeper has been with the T20 team of Bangladesh since the beginning of this year. He has played six T20's for the team. He will come up in the team as the 12th ODI wicket keeper for Bangladesh. Mushfiqur is being replaced for four times before this. Since his debut in 2006, it would be the fifth time the player will be replaced. As a wicket keeper, he was replaced by Dhiman Ghosh, Jahurul Islam, Anamul Haque and Liton Das earlier.
Chandika Hathurusingha, Bangladesh Coach, is eyeing Hasan's ability to bat. He would be lined up in the lower middle order. In the six T20s he played, Hasan has a batting average of 18, with a strike rate of 125.58. His highest score is 30. However, his first-class record is attractive and the player is expected to be a worthy replacement of Rahim. In ODI, Rahim averaged 31.92 with a strike rate of 76.40. He played 165 ODIs to total 4118 runs in the format.
The Coach is expecting Rahim to recover soon so that he might at least play the Test matches. He said that the player is recovering fast. In fact, the team is expecting him to be fit earlier that they think. The coach said that he is accomplished and through in his preparation. In the same time, he pointed out Hasan as a capable batsman. Despite of the fact that Hasan is a debutant the coach is confident on him.
