Boult, along with New Zealand trainer Chris Donaldson, who has been with the Kolkata Knight Riders, will spend about a week with their families after undergoing the mandatory two weeks in managed isolation on their return before joining the Test squad in England.
In the recently abandoned IPL 2021, Trent Boult grabbed 8 wickets from 7 games and helped Mumbai Indians to win couple of games before the tournament was postponed indefinitely.
Although the 31-year old will still be available for the World Test Championship final against India. An NZC statement said that Boult would be back with the squad possibly in time to be picked for the second Test against England but certainly in time for the ICC WTC final.
“We’re completely supportive of Chris and Trent taking the opportunity to see their families before heading to the UK,” David White, the NZC chief executive, said.
“They’ve always been the consummate professionals and we’re more than happy to accommodate these arrangements.”
On the other hand, Team also hinted that Ross Taylor is not completely fit at the moment but will be fine before 2-match series against England.
Gary Stead, New Zealand’s coach, admitted that the injury to Taylor was a bit of a concern. “You are always worried when any injuries happen, but someone of Ross’s standing and caliber as a Test player, you always have a little bit of a concern,” he told reporters. “Fingers-crossed… everything is good and we still have time on our site, but we’ll just have to wait and see what the medical team says,” he added.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, Kyle Jamieson and Mitchell Santner, along with physio Tommy Simsek, will travel to England on May 11.
