Chennai Super Kings finally nicked the IPL 2018 final in a striking victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mumbai. Hyderabad scored 178 runs sent in bat first. In the inning, Kane Williamson and Yusuf Pathan scored the top runs. In the powerplay overs, Shikhar Dhawan and Williamson steered with average score losing Shreevats Goswami at a out in the second over. The momentum was sluggish reaching only 64 by the 9th over, as Dhawan too lost his wicket. The middle order played with a strong effect with Shakib Al Hasan on strike. When the strike gathered some speed, Williamson was taken down by Karn Sharma.
Yet, another player, Yusuf Pathan began plundering runs right from the first ball he faced. His 45 off 25 balls was a crucial push to the score. The player remained unbeaten playing the final overs with Carlos Braithwaite, as the duo hauled the target for Super Kings to 179. In the 18th over, bowled by Darren Bravo, the players scored 16 runs. Shardul Thakur and Lungi Ngidi, on the other hand, tricked down 18 runs in the last two overs.
Chennai Super Kings was almost with perfect strike in IPL 2018 final. The chase was fueled with Shane Watson, the 36 years old batsman playing throughout the inning. Watson hammered an unbeaten century scoring 117 runs playing 57 balls. In the inning, he struck 11 fours and 8 sixes. Hyderabad bowlers including Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma let 95 runs in the seven overs they shared. Watson feasted on the players picking up those expensive boundaries. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan bowled with good economy but failed to nick any wickets. Hyderabad could take down only two wickets, that of Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina in the chase.
Watson’s strike was a strategic one leaving the difficult ones carefully, while plundering the easy ones. Even in situations when Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the lead, he was cautious enough not to lose his cool. His enterprise took the chase to 181 runs, as the Super Kings won the match by 8 wickets sparring 9 balls. Hyderabad lost an IPL match this season for the fourth time to Chennai Super Kings, handing out even the grand finale.
