The Pandemic has already forced ICC to cancel several series which were a part of the tournament and hence ICC had to make alternations in the rule owing to the unprecedented pandemic.
The first group of Blackcaps has departed for the all-important England tour. New Zealand will play their first of the two matches against the English side on June 2, the same day when India is expected to depart for England for the ICC WTC final.
New Zealand test opener and one of the strengths of the squad Tom Latham has also departed from New Zealand for the tour as he spoke to a NZC media on the airport.
Players like Matt Henry, Darly Mitchell were also spotted with Tom Latham in a squad.
Tom Latham said it is a great yet challenging opportunity for the Blackcaps to play two test matches against England as they will play probably the most high staked one-off game against India, after a 4 day break, for the Inaugural World Test Championship Trophy. Latham reckoned the two would assist the team for preparation but due to hectic schedule it looks challenging. He added, however, the 2-match will not be for fun.
“We need to build the right momentum leading to the WTC Final against India”, he reckoned.
The Inagural Final
The ICC World Test Championship Final is scheduled on June 18 as India will clash New Zealand at Rose Bowl Stadium, Southampton. Both teams have already announced a 20-man squad for the big match.
