Australia is in a commendable position after the first day`s play with the centuries made individually by Chris Roger and Steven Smith. The decision to bat first after winning the toss was proved a positive one. Before the end of the day, Chris Rogers had made 158, while Smith was at 129 and both of them were still on the crease. Australia had put 337 runs on the board with the loss of just one wicket.
The only batsman that Australia lost was David Warner, who got out early in the fifteenth over for 38 off 42 balls. Moeen Ali was the man to take Warner`s wicket. Roger`s score made yesterday came out to be his career’s best Test batting statistics. Before this, his last highest was made against the same opponent at Sydney Cricket Ground in January the previous year. Out of the 158 runs he made, 100 runs came straight from the boundary.
