|People couldn’t help but wonder why young talented opener Prithvi Shaw was dropped from the squad for England tour after just failing in just two innings. After the Australia tour, Shaw was not selected for England series, so he played the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy and scored 827 runs in just 8 matches. He carried his stunning form in the IPL 2021 and scored 308 runs in just 8 matches, taking his team home multiple times.
However, a BCCI official has revealed the reason why selectors didn’t even took his name in the selection meeting. The source was quoted by Times of India and said that he has to look at the example of Rishabh Pant. Pant was re-selected after he reduced some kilos from his body. Thus, the source said that Shaw also needs to shed some kilos before making a comeback in the Indian team.
“Prithvi is still very slow across the turf for a 21-year-old. He needs to shed a few more kilos. He also had concentration issues while fielding in Australia. Shaw has been working hard since he returned from Australia. He has the example of Rishabh Pant right in front of him. If Pant can turn things around in a few months, Prithvi too can do it,” the BCCI source said.
“He has to sustain this form for a few more tournaments. He has often been picked on the basis of one good series and then he has struggled in international cricket, He is too good a player to be ignored for long,” the source added.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a huge squad for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) Final and five-match Test series against England. The board named a 20-member squad which will travel to England on June 2 and will first play the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand from June 18 and will then stay in England for 40 days before playing the Test series.
In the squad, there were a few surprising omissions. Firstly, the axing of talented opener Prithvi Shaw, and reports reveal that his name wasn’t even discussed in the selection meeting and then the omission of India’s swing king Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, which thought to be due to his injuries and keeping him fresh for the mega T20 World Cup later
