In the absence of Kiwi colossus Kane Williamson who is rested owing to an elbow injury, Tom Latham led the side and won the toss to put visitors to the bat. Following a decent 4 over start, Trent Boult plumbed the Bangaladesh skipper with a straight yet sharped angle in delivering and dismissed Tamim Iqbal for a score of 13. Soumya Sarkar looked to spread hands early but mistimed the short ball and to covers and the debutant, Devon Conway got it comfortably.

Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim tried to forge a partnership but the part-timer Neesham numbed him with a cross-seam delivery to get a leading edge and Boult took with ease at Mid-On. Mushfiqur Rahim looked decent against the kiwi attack and elevated a cut shot in the gully off Neesham and Guptill rarely misses out on such opportunities. Chasing 132, Martin Guptill provided some fantastic entertainment by starting with boundaries in first over and slammed 38 at the Strike Rate of 200 including 4 gigantic sixes and 3 fours. The debutant scored a sensible 27 off 52 before stepping up to play an obnoxious shot losing his wicket to Right Arm seamer Hasan Mahmud. Henry Nicholls and Will Young added the required 14 run to the total and took NZ 1-0 in the Three-match ODI series. Henry Nicholls remained unbeaten for 49 off 53 including 6 fours.
Trent Boult was awarded Man of the match for his magnificent 4/27 figures. The cecond ODI will take place on Tuesday, 23 March at Christchurch.
