Ricky Ponting felt great to be back on the field after the tedious quarantine. Ponting mentioned that a lot of familiar and new faces joined the squad for the session though Six new faces would join the team in the upcoming days. Australian players are still in quarantine yet likely to play the first match. The Indian Superstar opener Shikhar Dhawan is suppose to join DC soon. The Head Coach said that they had plenty of chat with the new Skipper Rishabh Pant heading into the first game. "The last thing we want is overloading the captain with all sorts of information once the tournament is underway", says Ricky Ponting.
"Its big role of other coaches and senior players to get behind him(Rishabh) even after once game starts. He is going to need little bit of support but he understands the game and confident about his thoughts and that will hold great as far as captaincy is concerned." says Ricky ponting.
Ponting apparently stated that he made a comment about Pant before the start of Second test match played in Australia. "This will be unearthing of a 15 year test player for India.", he state. The Head Coach complimented "Pant's game in last 6 months nothing short of breathtaking and outstanding."
"Another reason we handed him captaincy is because extra responsibility is going to sit well as he is sort of person who likes responsibility and likes to be a main man", says Punter. Ponting reckons they(Delhi Capitals) can win IPL this season and the squad is stronger than they were last season. He further expressed his astonishment with new acquisitions to the side.
Delhi Capitals will begin their campaign on Saturday, April 10 against Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai.
