Mumbai Indians was lately struck with its first injury issue as Pat Cummings was drooped due to injury issues from this IPL season. The fast bowler was a top pick of the team and was posed as one of front line attackers. Mumbai Indians roped in Cummings for a whopping amount of INR 5.4 Cr. in the January auction. The player already missed the first campaign of the team in this IPL season. He was dropped from the match against Chennai Super Kings. Cricket Australia confirmed that the player is suffering from “bone oedema” in his vertebrae and it could magnify if he stresses out in this condition.
Cummings will now undergo a session of complete rest and recovery. He would be rehabilitated for few weeks before starting the actual healing process. The fast bowler experienced some soreness on his back in the South Africa campaign. Although the situation was not that complicated, follow-up scans revealed his situation. Per team physio David Beakley, he has to take a time off from bowling to prevent the injury to aggravate. This made him drop away from IPL campaigns for the season. He is even uncertain to participate in the limited overs campaign scheduled in UK. In the upcoming tournament, Australia is scheduled to player five ODIs and a single T20 match against England in June.
Pat Cummings is one of the heavy-duty players of Australia. In the year 2017, he bowled a total of 594.5 overs. He is the bowler to deliver third highest overs in the year. Only Kagiso Rabada and Nathan Lyon has bowled more overs than him. Rabada bowled 644.4 overs, while Lyon delivered 690 overs. Pat Cummings was away from Test format since his first tournament back in 2011. His comeback was only in season 2016-17 in the tour to India. Since then, he played 13 back to back Test.
