Is Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s squad for the ICC World Cricket Tournament at its best?
The team has recently played good cricket. If we analyze at least from a year ago, Team India has won great series against England and New Zealand recently. Since every win before the World Cup becomes important to build a positive vibe in the team for the occasion, India can be said to have a slightly better edge and is all set to face the upcoming CWC.
The main question lies with the preparation. A team can prepare better by playing good and winning matches. And the more matches it plays, the more experience and outlook the players gain. Compared to the last ICC World Cup’ 2011, India is a relatively young team this time. The batting department has the best at the moment. Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Shikhar Dhwan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Murli Vijay, and Robin Uthappa have the capbility to turn the course of a match on their own. Captain himself can bat tremendously, which is again a plus. So, apparently, batting department will be a key for Team India this time.
However, the prime concern with Indian batting squad is the line-up. Virat Kohli, after the not-so-great England series, has come up with flying colors in the recent New Zealand tour. We hope that was a lean phase, which Virat himself would never wish to live again.
Another thing of concern that may surface during the World Cup is injury. As most of the star batsman are also some of the greatest fielders. This, calls for a greater check on their part not to harm their forms so that batting performance gets affected. Another topic of much discussion has been the batting order. Most of the analysts as well as cricket lovers find it hard to digest what is the though behind Rohit-Rahane as the opening duo. It requires a deeper insight once more before finalizing the final batting order.
On the other hand, bowling department is no less impressive. Ishant Sharm, Bhuvneshwar Kumar Singh, Mhd Shami, Amit Sharma, Varun Aaron, Umesh Yadav seem to be in their best of the form. Ashok Bhimchandra Dinda and Mohit Sharma can bowl well too. The bowling team has to evolve a bit more in strategizing a better plan while delivering in the death-overs.
The preparation remains incomplete without a robust planning. The best thing with Team India is the cool, yet super-analytical mind of M S Dhoni. This world cup too, we are going to witness some strange last time rearrangements and order changes from Dhoni.
However, this seems to be a bit judgmental…
Let us wait for what happens on the ground.
