Delhi Daredevils is preparing its IPL 2018 ensemble ahead of the seasons start. Lately, the franchise declared Gautam Gambhir as captain of the team. Delhi is the home city of Gambhir. Earlier in January auction he was bought by the team for INR 2.8 Crore. The top batsman was with Kolkata Knight Riders in previous seasons of the tournament. He left Delhi Daredevils back in 2010, migrating to Knight Riders as the captain. In the earlier stretch, he played for three seasons, while in a stretch of seven years he led Knight Riders twice to lift the title.
Gambhir, in fact, wanted to end his IPL career with a stint with his home team. The player disclosed his plan last year. In an interview, the player said that he thinks his “heart is still with Delhi.” He commented that deep within his heart he would love to finish with Delhi. Even though he was the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, being a “Delhi boy”, he obviously wanted Delhi Daredevils to do well. Now being with Delhi, the cricketer acknowledged that it was a “huge honor to captain DD”. Being selected as the captain, Gambhir said it is a way for him to give back the sport to the city.
The new Captain lauded Delhi Daredevils as team with players of immense potential. Per the captain, it is up to the players how they can turn their potentials into consistent performances. Gambhir accoladed coach, Ricky Ponting as “an absolute champion”. He said, it would be great to work with unison with Ponting. Meanwhile, the coach also praised Gambhir as a “leader for a very long time”. Per the coach, Gambhir has proven himself as one of top leaders in IPL. Ponting said the new captain will inspire the rest of the team, adding, the franchise is proud to have him as the captain.
