In an unfortunate turn of events, reports are emerging that Indian speedster and swing king Bhuvaneshwar Kumar has given up Test cricket owing to injury concerns. India is all set to tour England and when the squad was announced, there were talks and debates regarding Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, who was not selected in the squad.
Fans and numerous experts were unhappy regarding Kumar’s axing. However, now, reports have emerged that he is focusing more on the shortest format of the sport. ‘Bhuvneshwar just doesn’t want to play Test cricket anymore. That drive has gone missing,’ they were quoted as saying.
‘Selectors don’t even see Bhuvi hungry for 10 overs, forget Test cricket’
The reports states further: “Those who have seen him from close insist he brought in a huge change in his work-drills a couple of seasons ago, doing away with heavy weight training, falling to the lure of the white-ball comfort and avoiding those hours of long spells that are so integral to red-ball cricket. To be honest, the selectors don’t even see Bhuvi hungry for 10 overs, forget Test cricket. It’s Team India’s loss no doubt, because if one bowler should have made it to England, it should have been him.”
Now with Bhuvi out of contention, India are likely to field their experienced fast-bowling trio of Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah for the summer. However, the rise of Mohammed Siraj since the last year has been exceptional and the management will also consider him while picking the right XI. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar’s inclusion, though, would’ve boosted the bowling attack, considering the amount of swing he generates with the Duke ball. Thus, his absence can prove to be a huge loss for Team India.
Team India to enter the bio-bubble on May 19
Before departing for England for a long summer, the Indian Cricket Team will quarantine themselves in a hotel in Mumbai for more than 10 days. This will benefit them when they will land in England and will be given permission to train from day one. Team India will clash with New Zealand in the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) Final in Southampton. Post that, the team will stay in England for the next 40 days to prepare for the five-match Test series against England. Plus, they are expected to play intra-squad matches, which will also entertain people back in India.
